Sick Child Policy
Our sick policy guidelines are adapted from the American Academy of Pediatrics which is followed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
Fever that exceeds 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit | Student can return when they have been fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication |
Diarrhea | Student can return 24 hours after diarrhea has stopped |
Vomiting | Student can return 24 hours after vomiting has stopped |
Abdominal Pain for more than 2 hours | Student can return if no other symptoms are present and pain is subsiding |
New Rash | Student can return when provider has determined that it is not contagious |
Strep Throat | Student can return after 2 doses of antibiotic and is fever free |
Head Lice/Scabies/Ringworm | Can return after the first treatment |
Pink Eye | Stay home if eyes have crusty white or yellow discharge. Student can return after 24 hours of antibiotic eye drop treatment |
Flu like/COVID Symptoms | Follow MDHHS guidelines |

COVID-19 Home Test Backpack Program
MI Backpack Home Tests is a voluntary program offered by MDHHS for Michigan K–12 students, educators, staff, and their families who want an extra layer of protection against COVID-19. There is no consent or reporting required.
If you would like to receive 2 free test kits, please fill out the COVID-19 Test Kit Request Form and they will be sent home with your student.
If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, please notify the office when you report your child’s absence. These may be symptoms of a communicable disease that needs to be reported to the health department.
