Good afternoon,
We are seeing a large number of students coming to school with flu and flu-like symptoms. According to experts, flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze, or talk. Less often, a person might get the flu by touching a surface or object that has the flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.
Symptoms include
- fever or feeling feverish/chills
- cough
- sore throat
- runny or stuffy nose
- muscle or body aches
- headaches
- fatigue (tiredness)
- some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
Flu viruses can be detected in most infected persons beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to five to seven days after becoming sick. People with flu are most contagious in the first three to four days after their illness begins.
If your student is exhibiting any of the above symptoms, please follow the district sick policy and keep them home to avoid spreading it to others.
This includes
- stay home when you are feeling ill
- following a fever, students may not return to school until they have been 24 hours fever free without the the use of fever reducing medications
- cover your cough and practice frequent hand washing
Thank you for your cooperation!
