Community Education Programs

Our Community Education Classes are typically run out of Union Street Center.  Any other class sites will be indicated in the course descriptions listed below.  We would love to hear your ideas about classes that you would like to take or teach.  Give us a call at 517-663-8169!

We are currently accepting class proposals for our Community Education Program!  This is a great opportunity to share your skills with others.  Print and mail a copy of the Course Proposal Form to the attention of Melisa Kennedy at 501 Union Street or e-mail a completed form to mkennedy@erpsk12.org.

HEALTHY LIVING WITH ELIZABETH

This is a unique class where you will be able to pick 3-5 items to make and take using essential oils. Every month the class will have a theme and feature new products!  The theme for January is Personal Care Items.  Some of the items to choose from are Lavender room spray, stress away spray, hand santizer, sugar scrub, foaming hand soap and facial cleaning pads. 

Date: Thursday, January 12th

Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Location: Union Street Center

Cost: $5 per item made (minimum of 3 items will be made during the class)

 

BEGINNING FENCING -  (AGES 9th Grade - Adult)

This is an on-going class to teach the basics of fencing.  Footwork and blade work are introduced.  Students will progress in class at their own speed and ability level, as well as have opportunities to train with other fencers.  There is club equipment available for use in class.  Classes are scheduled on a month to month basis.  All returning students who register a "First Time" student will be eligible for a FREE month of lessons!

Dates:  Fridays (Sign up at the beginning of each month) NO CLASSES FOR DECEMBER

Time:  7:00pm to 9:00pm

Place:  Union Street Center

Cost: Monthly - $100/first time students (includes one time equipment fee),  $50 for returning students

SMALL CLAIMS COURT 

Dr. Baranski is an attorney and Law School Professor who wrote, "Small Claims Court in Michigan, How to Bring and Defend you Case in court and Collect Upon Your Judgement."  This legal lecture is designed for someone with no court experience to have an overviewof how the Small Claims Court operates.  

Date:  Wednesday, January 11th

Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Location: Union Street Center

INDOOR TEE BALL (AGES 3-4 & 5-6) Offered by Eaton Rapids Recreation, LLC

This is a co-ed clinic developed to help kids learn the joy and "fun" damentals of tee ball.  Children will practice together in small groups with coaches and during scrimmages to brush up on already learned skills or to learn from scratch.  No experience necessary.  Clinics will be scheduled for one hour late morning to early afternoon on Saturdays all at GIS.  There is one Sunday date.  All equipment is provided, except a mitt.  Helmets are shared.  Parents will be contacted by email once schedules are set.  Please be sure to provide a reliable email for contact and check it often.

Dates: November 5,12, 20 (Sunday) and December 3, 10, 17

Location: Greyhound Intermediate School

Cost: $60 total, includes November and December

 

BEGINNING PAINTING (Age 13+)

Learn brush technique, color mixtures, wet on wet, blending, setting up canvases and much more!  Start out with a 12x16 canvas and complete an oil painting in just 90 minutes. Class is taught by Dave Baker, a Bob Ross Certified Instructor. ALL supplies are provided.  The painting changes every month!

Dates:  Tuesday 11/15, 12/20, 1/17, 2/21, 3/21

Time:  10:00 am OR 5:30 pm

Place:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $30 per class

 

CHAMPIONS of the REALM (Grades 6 to 8)

Role-playing games! Explore ancient ruins, haunted forests, and forgotten caverns in a world of magic, danger, and hidden treasure. Learn the GURPS game system rules, and conquer the realm. Materials such as dice, pencils, figurines and character sheets will be provided.

Dates: Fridays November 11th & 18th, December 2nd, 9th & 16th and January 6th

Time:  3:00 - 6:00 pm

Place:  Middle School (Rm 108)

Cost:  $45 

 

 

ER LADIES BOOT CAMP 

A fun but challenging boot camp experience based on weight lifting.  All levels of fitness or experience are welcome! Classes are scheduled on an 8 week rotation

Dates: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (Next session begins January 2nd)

Time:  6:00pm to 7:00pm

Place:  ERHS Weight Room

Cost:  $100/ 8 week session

 

 

BEGINNING UKULELE AND JAMMING SESSIONS (AGES 5-100)

This class is intended for a fun and stress free learning environment for anyone who wants to learn to play the Ukulele.  The goals of this class are to engage people of all ages and increase cognitive developement in the young and help retain cognitive function as we age. You will learn to correctly identify the parts of a ukulele, correctly tune your ukulele and identify chords and chord groups. As the class progresses, your ability to play and your knowledge of the ukulele will increase as you learn to play songs and have "jam sessions" in a friendly environment.

Dates: 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month

Time: 7:00- 9:00 pm

Location: Union Street Center

Cost: $1 drop-in fee (Ukulele's only.  No other string instruments please! You must have your own ukulele)  Please bring writing and note supplies.

 

 

CARDIO DRUMMING

Connect with your true rhythm in life combining  drumming, music, rhythm and movement! This complete cardio workout is sure to make you sweat!  After each workout you will have the option to purchase a Herbal Life protein shake for $5.

Dates: Mondays and Thursdays (Year round)

Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

Place: Greyhound Central Elementary (Gym)

Cost: (Drop-in) $2.00 to rent a kit or $25 to purchase kit

 

SANCHIN-RYU'S KARATE FOR KIDS - (Grades K-8)

This program combines two crucial courses into one - Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project Secure Child (child safety). This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Master Dave Korman and Sensei Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Thursdays -  Fall 2 Session November 10th - January 19th (8 week session)

Time:  6:00pm to 7:00pm

Place:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $30/session

 

SANCHIN-RYU'S KARATE FOR ADULTS

Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program is designed to empower today's adults with knowledge that can save your life! Students will learn a broad range of techniques including individual strikes, advanced combinations and more. This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Master Dave Korman and Sensei Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Thursdays -  Fall 2 Session November 10th - Janury 19th (8 week session)

Time:  8:00pm to 9:00pm

Place:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $30/session

ZUMBA and strength training combo (AGES 13 & UP)

The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to created a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away! The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. This class is for all ages and fitness levels. An optional 20 minute strength training class follows the Zumba class. You will need to supply your own free weight. Instructor Denise Perkins.

Dates: Monday and Thursday (Year round)

Time: 5:30pm to 6:30 pm (Zumba) 6:30pm - 6:50pm (Strength Training)

Place: Union Street Center

Cost: $5 drop-in fee (Zumba) $2 additional (Strength Training)

 

GETTING PAID TO TALK

Have you ever been told that you have a great voice?  This exciting class will explore the numerous aspects of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books and documentaries.  We will cover all the basics, including how to prepare the all important demo, how to be successful and earn great income in this exciting field.  This class is informative, lots of fun and a great first step for anyone interested in voice acting proffessionally.  Space is limited, and registration closes one week prior to class, so register early!

Date: Wednesday, March 1st

Time:  6:30 -9:00 pm

Location:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $25

 

 

ER Fun Camps

We are excited to introduce “ER fun camps” this year! These camps are intended for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Come and join us for Extended Day Learning on early release days. Camp will run from 2:10 – 4:10 pm at Lockwood Elementary.  Students will be exposed to creativity, music, games, and S.T.E.M. challenges like making a flotation device for your action figures.  Lego math, Lego building, tower building with edible construction materials, themed activities like “Grabbing Spiders Through a Web” in October,  and balloon tennis are just a few of the fun activities that you child will do during this camp!

The cost of this camp is $5 per student.

Dates of camp:  Dec. 14th, Feb. 1st, March 22nd, April 19th, and May 17th

Office hours vary based on the building-wide schedule.  Please leave a voice mail message or send an e-mail and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

Class cancellation process:

Most classes require a minimum number of participants.  If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will contact registrants within 24 hours of the first class and a full refund will be issued.

Refund Procedures:

To cancel your registration, please email mkennedy@erpsk12.org.  Class cancellations must be requested 48 hours prior to the first class for a full refund.  A 50% refund is offered for cancellation prior to the second class.  No refund will be given after the second class or after a one-day seminar.  Refunds are typically processed within 30 days.
