Community Education Programs

Our Community Education Classes are typically run out of Union Street Center.  Any other class sites will be indicated in the course descriptions listed below.  We would love to hear your ideas about classes that you would like to take or teach.  Give us a call at 517-663-8169!

Healthy Living with Elizabeth

This is a unique class where you will be able to pick 3-5 items to make and take using essential oils. This month includes laundry soap, Lip Balm, Sinus support/Headache roll on, Bath Salts and Bubble bath/Shower Gel.

Date: Thursday, March 23rd

Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Cost: $5 per item made (minimum of 3 items will be made during the class)



This seminar will discuss successful education and the role that teachers, parents and community members play in achieving this.  Five topics will be discussed.

A.  Why be interested in our students success

B.  On what does our Democracy (Culture) depend

C.  What is right at our schools

D.  What is wrong at our schools

E. What the Instructor specifically recommends

This is a full body workout using body weight.  Maintain and gain muscle while burning off fat. Optional after workout shake available for $6.

Dates: Monday and Wednesday (Next session  April 10th - May 4th)

A fun interactive way to get your kids up and moving!  We will be using our imagination to move and sound like animals. We will use body weight exercises, battle ropes, slam balls, jump ropes and a punching bag.  This is a great way to stimulate the mind and body!  Kids chocolate protein shakes are available for $3 after each workout.  

Dates: Tuesdays (Spring session  April 18th -  June 6th)

Come and join the walking club!  Bring a friend or make a friend while you're walking!  Earn prizes!  After walk shakes available for $6!

BEGINNING FENCING -  (AGES 9th Grade - Adult)

This is an on-going class to teach the basics of fencing.  Footwork and blade work are introduced.  Students will progress in class at their own speed and ability level, as well as have opportunities to train with other fencers.  There is club equipment available for use in class.  Classes are scheduled on a month to month basis.  All returning students who register a "First Time" student will be eligible for a FREE month of lessons!

Dates:  Fridays (Sign up at the beginning of each month) NO CLASSES IN APRIL

Time:  7:00pm to 9:00pm

Cost: Monthly - $100/first time students (includes one time equipment fee),  $50 for returning students



This class will teach your child how to tune their instrument, play simple chords and learn songs that they are interested in! 

Dates: 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. 

Times: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

Cost: $2 drop in fee 


Offered by Eaton Rapids Recreation, LLC

This is a co-ed clinic developed to help kids learn the joy and fundamentals of tee ball.  Children will practice together in small groups with coaches and during scrimmages to brush up on already learned skills or to learn from scratch.  No experience necessary.  Clinics will be scheduled for one hour late morning to early afternoon on Saturdays all at GIS.  There is one Sunday date.  All equipment is provided, except a mitt.  Helmets are shared.  Parents will be contacted by email once schedules are set.  Please be sure to provide a reliable email for contact and check it often.

Learn brush technique, color mixtures, wet on wet, blending, setting up canvases and much more!  Start out with a 12x16 canvas and complete an oil painting in just 90 minutes. Class is taught by Dave Baker, a Bob Ross Certified Instructor. ALL supplies are provided.  The painting changes every month!

CHAMPIONS of the REALM (Grades 6 to 8)

Role-playing games! Corruption of the Inland Wilds must be halted!  What nefarious forces plot to overthrow this land?  Can the heroes locate the source, and heal the ailing forest?  Join us, and find out.  *GURPS, Dungeon Fantasy game system* Materials such as dice, pencils, figurines and character sheets will be provided.

Dates: Fridays March 24th, April 14th, 21st, & 28th, May 5th and 12th

Time:  3:00 - 6:00 pm

Place:  Middle School (Rm 108)

KIDS ZUMBA (Ages 4-12)

A high energy dance class where kids will learn about dances/activities/games from around the world, while building self-confidence, gaining friends and learning healthy habits!  Class will run on 8 week rotation.

Dates:  Wednesday and Saturday (Next session April 12th - June 3rd)

Time: Wednesday 6:30 pm - 7:15 pm and Saturday 10:00 am - 10:45 am

Place: Union Street Center Room 112

Cost: $50 (Sibling discount! 2nd child $40 and each additional child after that is $35)


Yoga (Ages 16 & up)

In this class you will experience first hand how yoga can bring stability, balance and flexibility leading to inner calm and peace.  This class is open to any level of practitioner.  Each person will be guided through well-rounded intelligent sequences, varying from vigorous to gentle.

A fun but challenging boot camp experience based on weight lifting.  All levels of fitness or experience are welcome! Classes are scheduled on an 8 week rotation

Dates: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (Next session begins March 6th - April 27th)

Time:  6:00pm to 7:00pm

Place:  ERHS Weight Room

Cost:  $50/ 8 week session



Connect with your true rhythm in life combining  drumming, music, rhythm and movement! This complete cardio workout is sure to make you sweat!  After each workout you will have the option to purchase a Herbal Life protein shake for $5.

Dates: Mondays and Thursdays (Year round)

Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

Place: Greyhound Central Elementary (Gym)

Cost: (Drop-in) $2.00 to rent a kit or $25 to purchase kit



This program combines two crucial courses into one - Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project Secure Child (child safety). This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Master Dave Korman and Sensei Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Thursdays -  Spring Session (April 13th - June 1st) 

Time:  6:00pm to 7:00pm

Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program is designed to empower today's adults with knowledge that can save your life! Students will learn a broad range of techniques including individual strikes, advanced combinations and more. ZUMBA and strength training combo (AGES 13 & UP)

The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to created a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away! The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. This class is for all ages and fitness levels. An optional 20 minute strength training class follows the Zumba class. You will need to supply your own free weight. Instructor Denise Perkins.

Dates: Monday and Thursday (Year round)

Time: 5:30pm to 6:30 pm (Zumba) 6:30pm - 6:50pm (Strength Training)

Have you ever been told that you have a great voice?  This exciting class will explore the numerous aspects of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books and documentaries.  We will cover all the basics, including how to prepare the all important demo, how to be successful and earn great income in this exciting field.  This class is informative, lots of fun and a great first step for anyone interested in voice acting professionally.  Space is limited, and registration closes one week prior to class, so register early!

ER Fun Camps

We are excited to introduce “ER fun camps” this year! These camps are intended for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Come and join us for Extended Day Learning on early release days. Camp will run from 2:10 – 4:10 pm at Lockwood Elementary.  Students will be exposed to creativity, music, games, and S.T.E.M. challenges like making a flotation device for your action figures.  Lego math, Lego building, tower building with edible construction materials, themed activities like “Grabbing Spiders Through a Web” in October,  and balloon tennis are just a few of the fun activities that you child will do during this camp!

The cost of this camp is $5 per student per camp.

Dates of camp:  Dec. 14th, Feb. 1st, March 22nd, April 19th, and May 17th

Class cancellation process:

Most classes require a minimum number of participants.  If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will contact registrants within 24 hours of the first class and a full refund will be issued.

Refund Procedures:

To cancel your registration, please email  Class cancellations must be requested 48 hours prior to the first class for a full refund.  A 50% refund is offered for cancellation prior to the second class.  No refund will be given after the second class or after a one-day seminar.  Refunds are typically processed within 30 days.
