Class cancellation process:

Most classes require a minimum number of participants.  If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will contact registrants within 24 hours of the first class and a full refund will be issued.

Refund Procedures:

To cancel your registration, please call 517-663-8169 or e-mail ajones@erpsk12.org.  Class cancellations must be requested 48 hours prior to the first class for a full refund.  A 50% refund is offered for cancellation prior to the second class.  No refund will be given after the second class or after a one-day seminar.  Refunds are typically processed within 30 days.

Community Education Programs

Our Community Education Classes are typically run out of Union Street Center.  Any other class sites will be indicated in the course descriptions listed below.  We would love to hear your ideas about classes that you would like to take or teach.  Give us a call at 517-663-8169!

Beginning painting

Learn brush technique, color mixtures, wet on wet, blending, setting up canvases and much more!  Start out with a 12x16 canvas and complete an oil painting in just 90 minutes.  All supplies are provided and the class is taught by Dave Baker, a Bob Ross Certified Instructor.  The painting changes every month so you can choose which picture(s) you paint!

Dates:  Tuesdays; 4/22/14, 5/27/14

Time:  6:00pm to 8:30pm

champions of the realm (Grades 6 to 8)

Role-playing games!  Learn the GURPS rules and conquer worlds.  Science Fiction...Medieval Fantasy...Post Apocalypse...This winter the king is seeking heroes to defend the border lands.  Find your fortune within the ruins, dark forested mountains, and deep dungeons beyond the kingdom.  Supplies will be provided.  E-mail teachtech777@gmail.com with questions!  This program has a maximum of eight students.

er ladies boot camp

A fun but challenging boot camp experience based on weight lifting.  All levels of fitness or experience are welcome!

Getting Paid to Talk

Ever been told you have a great voice? From audio books and cartoons to documentaries, commercials, and more, this class will introduce you to the growing field of voice over. Today, the range of voices hired has grown dramatically from the days of announcers. Learn what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in your area! We'll discuss industry pros and cons and play samples from working voice professionals. In addition, you will have an opportunity to record a short professional script under the direction of our teacher.

Grounded for Life

"You are GROUNDED FOR LIFE"!  The infamous phrase a parent utters in frustration is actually a great idea!  Turning Leaf's value based parenting method isn't about grounding your child to his or her room to get their behavior under control.  It is about grounding them in principles, coping skills and morals that will serve them now and throughout adulthood.  The "Grounded For Life" series will provide parents of all ages with the tools to build a healthy, consistent parent/child relationship, as well as empower children to develop their own value system to make healthy choices, even when adults aren't looking!

**Free on-site babysitting is available for families who register by 3/31**

This is an on-going class to teach the basics of fencing.  Footwork and blade work are introduced.  Students will progress in class at their own speed and ability level, as well as have opportunities to train with other fencers.  There is club equipment available for use in class.  Classes are scheduled on a month to month basis.  All returning students who register a "First Time" student will be eligible for a FREE month of lessons!

Mid Michigan Family Theatre - Fairy Tale Theatre (ages 8 & Under)

Fairy Tales come to life in this theatre class that will focus on popular (as well as some not so popular) fairy tales.  After hearing the fairy tale story,  participants will then re-enact the fairy tale through their own eyes, with acting advice and help from the instructor.  This class will focus on building and strengthening imagination and creativity skills.

Dates:  Saturdays, 4/19/14 to 5/24/14

Time:  10:00am to 10:45am

Mid Michigan Family Theatre - Actor's Workshop (Ages 8 to 14)

This class takes students at any stage of development through the acting process.  We will look at the different components that make up the acting process, including using the voice and body while on stage.  Additional scene study will offer individual attention as students work with monologues and scenes appropriate to their age level to develop acting skills.  The session will conclude with a performance for family and friends.

Mid Michigan Family Theatre - Introduction to Acting (Ages 8 to 11)

Want to become the next big thing to hit Broadway or Hollywood?  If so, it all starts in this class!  Students will be introduced to the basic skills of acting, while gaining self-confidence and public speaking skills along the way.  Students will use materials such as monologues, scenes, and theatre games to understand and experience theatre acting.

Dates:  Wednesdays, 4/16/14 to 5/21/2014 OR Saturdays, 4/19/2014 to 5/24/2014

Times:  Wednesdays from 4:15pm to 5:15pm, Saturdays from 11:00am to 12:00am

sanchin-ryu's after school karate for teens

Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program is designed to empower today's young adults with knowledge that can save their lives!  Students will learn a broad range of techniques including individual strikes, advanced combinations and more.  This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructor Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Wednesdays, 4/16/14 to 6/4/14

Time:  3:00pm to 4:00pm

This program combines two crucial courses into one - Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project Secure Child (child safety). This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Dave Korman and Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Wednesdays, 1/8/14 to 6/4/14

Time:  6:00pm to 7:00pm

Cost:  $5 drop-in fee

zumba/strength combo class (ages 13 & up)
